Bob Fickes ~ The Great “I Don’t Know!”

We can never assume that we understand the world around us. Everything starts with the great “I don’t know!” When we think we know, we do not look, and consequently make a mistake. When we realize that we don’t know, we look for the Truth and innocently find the right way to respond.
When we realize that we don’t know, then we find peace. We can observe the world and peacefully feel what our heart is telling us. All of the human virtues start with a simple peaceful awareness. Peacefulness breeds patience. Patience gives rise to compassion. When we have compassion towards our self and no longer push our self or think too much, we will know what to do. The greatest secret of this universe is quite simple! Just be peaceful without assuming anything. Put aside what you have thought in the past, and just look at what is happening now inside of your self. This is the source of all wisdom. It is the dawn of true knowingness.

Lao Tsu once said:
Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts,
you return to your peace within your self.
Patience with both friends and enemies,
you understand the way things are.
Compassion towards yourself,
you love all beings in the world.
Love your self. Never assume you understand anything. In this way you will be gentle and find peace. When you are at peace, you will understand the whole world, not by looking at the world, but by looking inside at what you feel when you are peaceful.
