Nature is our friend. This may seem very obvious, even trite, but it’s something that’s easy to forget. In a world where we manufactureeverything we need, it’s sometimes hard to remember that the earth is our first home, that nature provides us with all that we really need and that in order to continue to enjoy life on earth, we need to treat it with the same respect we would accord to any friend.
Did you know that in the last 200 years, we have destroyed 90% of the planet’s trees, and the rate at which we destroy continues to grow? It’s hard to imagine the reduction in wildlife of all kinds that this has caused. There simply remains no habitat in which they can live. Most of us get very upset when we hear statistics like this but have no idea how to stop rain forest destruction on the other side of the planet. The answer is simple. Know it to be wrong. Know in your heart that it is dead wrong and hold the knowledge that there is a better way. We can live sustainably. And if enough people know this in their heart, then our current patterns of destruction will shift. That is how it has to start, with our intentions.
The Earth needs our love and good intentions at this time. As individuals, we can’t change the world, but collectively, if we hold the same intentions we can. But the key is to hold those loving intentions in your heart. Deplore the destruction of nature and love the earth. It really is that simple.
